His brief is not to offend anybody, but a Dublin artist hired as Britain's official general election artist is promising that he will "not hold back" in his portrayal of the campaign. David Godbold has been commissioned by Westminster MPs to do 18 pictures based on three weeks of electioneering. "I was told by Tony Banks (the chairman of the Commons art committee) to be non-partisan, to produce work of historic importance and great artistic merit, and that I shouldn’t offend anybody," he said yesterday. “That’s a tough one. The obvious idea that occurs to me is eggs and omelette. It is very hard to make anything that will have historic significance that will not offend people in the medium term.”
