Auction Records Expected

Records for modern art are expected to be broken this week at Sotheby’s and Christie’s in London. Sotheby’s has a Modigliani expected to fetch at least £12m, Picassos and works by Renoir and Degas. Christie’s has works by Picasso, Cézanne and Francis Bacon, including a self-portrait estimated at £5.5m. The individual works may not be record-breakers, but it is thought to be the first time so many multi-million-pound works by 20th century artists have been sold. Irish Art
