Mask That Inspired Picasso

A 19th-century mask made by the West African Fang tribe fetched more than £4 million at auction in Paris - a record for a work of primitive art. The mask, which is said to have inspired Pablo Picasso, brought four times its estimated price. The buyer was not disclosed. Though it was out of public view for most of the 20th century, it made a big impression on celebrated artists such as Picasso, Matisse and Breton. Irish Art
