Art of Painting Bucks Trend
A landscape oil painting with a twist was yesterday named the winner of one of the art world's most prestigious prizes. Martin Greenland's Before Vermeer's Clouds was selected from more than 2,300 entries to win the £25,000 John Moores 24 art prize. The piece, which looks at first glance like a traditional landscape, is a fictitious creation based on Greenland's idea of heaven. It features a waterfall and a distant town with a strange multi-coloured tower, as well as a gold chest. The announcement was made at The Walker Liverpool, as part of the run up to the Biennial, which starts on Saturday. Judges included artists Tracey Emin and Sir Peter Blake.
