Lowry Art Smash And Grab

A masked gang stole 15 artworks, including three valuable L.S. Lowry paintings, from a recently opened gallery. The thieves, all wearing ski masks, used a drain cover to smash the front window of the Clark Art Gallery in Hale, Greater Manchester, and loaded the pictures into a car before driving away. The owner of the gallery, said of Lowry’s Two Women And Children, which he had recently sold for £115,000: “The guy who bought it doesn’t know it’s gone yet because he is in France and I can’t contact him. He will be gutted because it was his first Lowry". Mr Clark and his insurers have offered a £25,000 reward for any information leading to the return of the paintings, and the subsequent arrest and conviction of the thieves. Irish Art
