Stolen Munch Art To Be Shown

Oslo police are working with conservators at the Munch Art Museum to determine what technical examinations can be made without further damaging either The Scream or Madonna. Both paintings were damaged after armed robbers ripped them off the walls of the art museum in August 2004. "Madonna" has a hole in its canvas, while "The Scream" is damaged in one of its corners. The final decision on whether they’ll be shown "as-is," however, is up to city officials, because the Munch art collection is officially owned by Oslo Township. The police have no objections to displaying the paintings, but they continue to stay mum on exactly where they were found or what led to their recovery. Police reportedly continue to search for another person believed to have participated in the art robbery who wasn’t among those charged and later convicted last spring. Irish Art
