80 Foot Sculpture Burned
An 80ft-high human art sculpture made entirely from recycled materials by the award-winning creator of the Angel of the North was set alight as part of a day of live public performances. Turner Prize-winner Antony Gormley enlisted the help of residents to create the Waste Man structure above Dreamland Fun Fair in Margate, Kent, using abseilers and pulley systems. Teams of volunteers have spent the last two months collecting and sorting materials for the project before climbing up the huge framework to pack it. The sculpture burned as part of a day of activities inspired by the biblical book of Exodus, which retells the story of Moses and his search for the promised land.
