Art - Or An Empty Room?
It is nothing more than an empty art gallery, but this exhibition has cost thousands of pounds. The art show at Cardiff's Chapter Arts Centre is being staged by award winning artist Simon Pope. He is encouraging people to walk around the empty room, with art gallery staff or friends, discussing memories of other galleries in an exhibition that has received funding from the Arts Council of Wales. The exhibition has prompted anger from other artists. One Welsh Artist of the Year 2006 nominee, said: 'It sounds like a case of the emperor's new clothes. It makes me really angry when I think of all the artists struggling to make a living. This isn't creating anything apart from furore.' Funding for the art show came from a £50,000 grant from the Arts Council of Wales.
