Warhol Art Polaroid Sale
For the first time, a complete series of Andy Warhol's Polaroid Big Shot photos will go on sale in London, with a £14.2 million ($28.3 million) price tag, reports the Guardian’s Charlotte Higgins. Between 1977 and 1979, Warhol created art portraits of ten famous sports stars, from Pelé and Muhammad Ali to Chris Evert and Dorothy Hamill. The idea of using sporting heroes as subjects came from US collector Richard Weisman, who commissioned eight sets of the works and is now selling one set. The art auction comes at a time when Warhol's popularity appears to be reaching new heights. Eight of his works brought in almost £30 million ($60 million) at art auction last year.
