Wyeth Art Record Achieved

Bloomberg reports that a Andrew Wyeth's elegiac beige-and-tan study of a wizened man in a rural Maine house sold for $10.3 million yesterday, more than double the previous art record, at Christie's International in New York. The spare 1973 tempera "Ericksons" was estimated to bring as much as $6 million. The artist's record was $4.38 million. New York private art dealer Michael Altman made the winning bid and declined to comment. The high Wyeth price "wasn't a surprise," given the $70 million-plus prices paid for Rothko and Warhol paintings atart auctions last week, said Warren Adelson of Adelson Galleries Inc. Adelson said Wyeths have sold for more on the private market. (For full source and article click the Headline). Irish Art
