Gunmen Steal Monet In Nice

A group of armed, masked men burst into an art museum in the southern French city of Nice yesterday and made off with a painting by Claude Monet and two others by Flemish artist Pieter Bruegel, police said. A fourth painting stolen from the Museum of Beaux Arts was by Monet's fellow impressionist Alfred Sisley. The four stolen works are valued at about $1.4 million, police said. The five men, armed with handguns and wearing masks and jumpsuits, burst into the museum during opening hours. Two fled on a motorcycle, while the three others escaped by car. The stolen oil paintings include Monet's 1897 work "Cliffs near Dieppe," Agence France-Presse reported. (For full source and full article click the Headline). Irish Art
