Bacon Art Sale Repays RCA

Times Online reports that a painting given to the Royal College of Art in 1969 by Francis Bacon as rent for one of its art studios after his own was destroyed by fire fetched £8.08 million at an art auction by Christie’s in London. Study from the Human Body, Man Turning on the Light (1973-74) was valued at £400,000 in 1989. Bacon told the college that he would endorse its sale if it could help even one student. The proceeds will fund a £20 million centre for the RCA. Sir Christopher Frayling, its Rector and Vice-Provost, said: “I can build 100 studios for the one we rented to Bacon in 1969.” (For full source and full article click the Headline). Irish Art
