Sotheby's Auction Rockefeller
Some auctions draw crowds because of the quality of the offerings, others because of who owned the art, Carol Vogel writes in the New York Times. It is this latter category that Sotheby's anticipates will bring people to its New York headquarters in early October when most of the property from the estate of Laurance S. Rockefeller, the venture capitalist, conservationist and philanthropist, goes on view. The proceeds from the sales, which are expected to bring more than $12 million, will go to the Laurance S. Rockefeller Fund. On the block will be a selection of paintings and decorative objects including works by Rodin, Redon, Charles Prendergast and Henry Moore.
