Art Of The Outdoors

One of Britain's biggest outdoor paintings - longer than Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling - was unveiled today. Turner art Prize finalist and abstract artist Ian Davenport's mural has taken two years to complete. The art, on display near Tate Modern, features a combination of more than 300 colours. Poured Lines: Southwark Street measures about 160ft (50m) in length and nearly 10ft (3m) in height. It will be a permanent piece of art under the Western Bridge on London's Southwark Street in Bankside. Davenport first attracted major attention when his work featured in the seminal Freeze art exhibition, curated by Damien Hirst, in 1988. In 1991, his paintings, dominated by poured or dripped household paints, were shortlisted for the Turner Prize. For the full story - click the title Irish Art
