£300k Banksy Art Destroyed

The Sun reports that a famous art mural by street artist Banksy valued at £300,000 has been painted over. Since it was completed five years ago, millions of commuters and tourists had walked past the art near Old Street Tube station, central London. It showed actors Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta in a scene from violent film Pulp Fiction. They had been painted holding bananas rather than guns. But blundering Transport for London painters covered it — because it was deemed to be graffiti. Local resident George Thomas said: “There’s no way it could be confused with graffiti. Whoever destroyed it is an idiot.” A pal of the Bristol-based artist said: “You wouldn’t paint over a Van Gogh, nor should you paint over a Banksy.” Transport for London said the wall had been cleaned in line with its graffiti removal policy.
