Banksy Art for £1
Fans of guerrilla street artist Banksy are being given the chance to own an original piece of his art work - for just one pound. The rear door, pictured, of a car spray-painted in eye-catching zebra stripes by Banksy in 2004 has appeared on an online auction site. And despite his art work usually changing hands for tens of thousands of pounds, a lucky fan will be able to enter the virtual raffle for just a £1. Bidders are being asked to pay £1 for one of 10,000 virtual raffle tickets. Banksy fan John Chalmers, 42, a plumber from Radstock, near Bristol, is running the auction after finding the car rusting in a quarry near his home. "You wouldn't leave a Picasso or a Warhol to rot away; it's an important work of art, so I salvaged it." A photograph of the saloon car, which John believes is a Nissan Bluebird, appeared in Banksy's 2005 book Wall and Piece. In it, the artist explained his inspiration for the untitled piece: "An old man on a cider farm told me 'art is all about finding the paint-job that turned the donkey into the zebra'." All profits from the art auction will be donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Society as John's partner Emma Smele, 31, suffers from the disease. (For full source and full article click the Headline).
